Presented for the first time in Italy, the exhibition is dedicated to the best contemporary art from Africa. Contemporary African art is "art that comes from the people, is addressed to the people and returns to the people," as André Magnin observes. Developing out of the encounter in 1989 between Jean Pigozzi and André Magnin, the Pigozzi Collection is the most important in the world.

Jean Pigozzi reveals his passion for and fascination with African art, through a hundred works, including some never exhibited before. On display are drawings, paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations and site-specific exhibits. The works of 13 artists - Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, Bodys Isek Kingelez, Chéri Samba and Malick Sidibé, and Makonde Lilanga and Keita Seydou - reveal a creative richness which goes well beyond the stereotypes of folklore and decorative art of the post-colonial period, creating ties with Western art while developing their own independent language.
