On the model of the successful Turner and Venice, the catalogue of the first exhibition in Venice dedicated to John Singer Sargent (1856-1925). Most of the works of art come from private collections and have never been displayed before. At last, oil paintings and watercolours, dating between 1880 and 1913, will be displayed in Venice, the city Sargent loved the most.

The exhibition will feature nearly sixty works, all dedicated to Venice, by the greatest representative of American Impressionism, famous for his portraits of American and English aristocracy and upper middle class, including Henry James and Vernon Lee.

Enlivened by reflections of light on water and on buildings, the views of Venice and its most famous monuments (ponte di Rialto, palazzo Ducale, chiesa della Salute), next to scenes from everyday life in the city, with interiors of shops, crowded streets, women at work, cafés and taverns, create a suggestive tour in gondola along Canal Grande. With a preface by Giandomenico Romanelli and essays by Warren Adelson, Richard Ormond, William H. Gerdts, Elaine Kilmurray, Elizabeth Oustinoff and Rosella Mamoli Zorzi.
