Patrick Hall is a well-known painter, and his work is clearly fundamental in Ireland to the understanding of the so-called return to painting in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His work was the subject of an inspiring retrospective last year, which was held at The Model Arts and Niland Gallery in Sligo and the City Art Gallery in Limerick, and which was sensitively curated by the younger artis Isabel Nolan.

It is interesting to note that Patrick Hall's work has a strong following among a new generation of artists, from Willie McKeown to Nick Miller. The drawings we present here, however, are not that well known but form a fascinating group of works that deserve to be brought to a wider audience. There are over one hundred of them made in the last fifteen or so years-- so we are presenting an almost complete selection .
