Alberto Martini seemed born to explain the Divine Comedy. Hard to imagine a text in which reality and imagination, vision and transformation were more relevant to its inspiration. Inferno, Purgatory, Paradiso is the literary equivalent of the poetic visionary Martini, one of the many illustrators of Dante by Botticelli to Zuccari, from William Blake to Dorè. Dante and Martini are moving in the dimension of the dream. The city of Oderzo, returning to honor this Martini occasion, drew attention to the difficult relationship with Dante, a subject of reflection of the artist for about forty years. The corpus of drawings, lithographs, etchings Oderzo acquired by the Foundation for Culture and kept in the Pinacoteca, allows us to reconstruct the various stages of 'creative elaboration of Martini. Before this publication, in modern times, the ratio of Martini with Dante was investigated during the exhibition of the house of Dante in Abruzzo in Torre de' Passeri, and most recently in 2004, in the Pinacoteca civica Oderzo. Now this book illustrates fully the intellectual and psychological importance before aesthetics, Dante for Martini. " (From the foreword by Vittorio Sgarbi).
