One of the things I remember about my teenage trips to London is playing Pac-Man and Space Invaders on the cross-Channel ferry. Little did I suspect that years later I would spend the best part of my time covering cities around the world with mosaic Space Invaders, and that my mission would bring me back to England. I set about my first invasion of London in June 1999.

I returned seven times between then and summer 2007 when I put up LDN-100 (the 100th London Space Invader). This is also when I started compiling my archives for this book, which retraces my project and how it has evolved over this eight-year period. Over the course of these years, I've invaded two other UK cities -- Manchester and Newcastle -- both of which are included here.

England is probably the country where I've had the most run-ins with the police who, while they might have made me lose a few points, haven't stopped me from chalking up a score of 173 successful invasions and 3,360 points to add to those of the 38 other invaded cities.
