Ying Huang Ping, born in Xiamen, China, in 1954, studied at the Hangzhou in an atmosphere of cultural renewal, which allows him to look carefully at what is happening in the arts in the West. In 1983 he founded the Xiamen Dada collective that organizes the first exhibitions in China. In 1989 he was invited to participate in the great exhibition "Magiciens de la Terre" (Paris, the Pompidou Center), initiating the debate on the post and score for the first time the Western interest to the Chinese artists. While in Paris the riots break out of Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Huang Yong Ping, an artist inconvenient for the Chinese government, decided to settle in Paris. The first personal gallery dates back to 1990 in France, followed by other galleries in Europe and the United States. Since then, his works have been in major events around the world (Manifesta 1996 Gwangju Biennial of Johannesburg and 1997 Biennale di Venezia 1999). His peak came in 2005 with the retrospective at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. He lives and works in Paris.
