The second Stein notebook examines the sculptures and bas-reliefs of Fausto Melotti (Roverto 1902 - Milan 1986), which were produced in two distinct periods of his bountiful career. These two periods are distinguished by his choice of techniques, materials and language, ad provide confirmation of the artist's conceptual versatility as he frequented both the world of figures and abstract symbols with the same inspiration and conviction. Germano Celant wrote, "His abstractivism was assumed in a spiritualist and metaphysical perspective, with references to sacred and magic symbology. And while it may seem sacreligious from a figurative point of view, it nevertheless retains the spirit, words, sound or breath on which the universe is built."
