The first catalogue exclusively devoted to the sculpture of Enzo Cucchi, one of the leading representatives of the Transavanguardia. The first catalogue exclusively devoted to the sculpture of Enzo Cucchi, one of the leading representatives of the Transavanguardia. Over 40 bronzes, ceramics and installations explore the sculptural universe of an artist known to the public above all as a painter.

Cucchi sees sculpture, together with painting and drawing, as an instrument for expressing inwardness; his images belong to a poetic universe that draws on the popular world and its culture or is a direct expression of the unconscious. An expression that goes back to the very origins of sculpture through the prevalent use of bronze, in its dark, light or polished variants. The exhibition of works produced from the nineties down to the present is followed by a section of works in bronze but also ceramic, and images of installations in the open air.

An essay by Giacinto di Pietrantonio analyzes Cucchi's creative development, bringing out its theoretical underpinnings: the use of fire for working the bronze is experienced as the emulation of the primordial emergence of meaning from formless matter
