This book presents some of the schemes located on the coasts and riverbanks of the earth. They show the efforts of their designers to conceive and architecture that is elegant, appropriate to its enviornment and able to provide its inhabitants with the necessary comfort and security to enjoy a stimulating interaction with nature. These unusual works are located on seas, oceans, rivers and lakes but do not damage their idyllic image of natural paradises.
Fortunately, respect for the enviornment and care to avoid aggressive visual impacts are increasingly influential factors in the design of buildings that are intended as something more than a simple inhabitable space. These buildings are dream houses for many people, the refuge to which they can retreat from the stress of modern life. The architects organise the spaces to take full advantage of their location and to create a dialogue with the interior and the exterior of the building so that the two concepts are often merged into one.
