The exhibition devoted to Francesco Clemente at the MAXXI - National Museum of the Arts of the 21st Century is a coherent part of the museum's institutional activity in developing, promoting and documenting the outstanding expressions of contemporary art. Francesco Clemente has been well-known as a leading figure on the national and international artistic scene for over 30 years.

In the early 80s he gave a voice to the desire for individuality and materiality that determined a return to painting after the rigors of conceptualism, fulfilling his richly Italian and later international vocation. His instinctive originality, cultural nomadism and perceptive exploration of the fragmentation and instability of the self make him a sensitive and thoughtful interpreter of the present human condition in a Post-Modern cultural climate.
